Mission Statement

University of Rochester Alumni for Social Responsibility (UR ASR) is a group of alumni who seek to improve connections to the local and global communities in which they live and work, as well as to each other and the University. We seek to empower alumni and current students to actively encourage the University to support policies of social responsibility. We believe that we are unique stakeholders in upholding and promoting the University's motto, "Meliora" - "Ever Better." On that order, the goals of the group are threefold:

1. To coordinate and encourage networking between University of Rochester alumni and students and to be a resource for those working or wanting to work within socially responsible fields.

2. To encourage a culture of disclosure and openness at the University that permits and supports community dialogue about the University's decisions and their impacts.

3. To mobilize alumni and the University community to act upon goals they deem important.

History

UR ASR is in its forming stages. It was founded in July 2007 in response to the desire of a group of young alumni to remain positively connected to their alma mater.

Currently, a core group of young alumni are holding conversations with the office of Alumni Relations to determine the most appropriate relationship with this office, and are seeking to build membership by identifying UR graduates with interest in fields related to social and environmental sustainability.

Organizational Structure

Currently, decision-making is carried out by informal consensus among active members and leadership is self-selected. Visit the Get Involved page to find out how you can participate!
